July 17, 2017

So something interesting about South Africa, people just light fields on fire so the green grass will grow next season. They end up burning like a whole mountain and the fire brigade here does nothing and they respond like an hour later. haha Its kinda funny.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every animal but an elephant now. i want to ride an elephant haha. My mission is huge geography wise so we have to fly everywhere sooo only 3 zones met president. He’s kinda on a tour.

I love driving here hahaha its like your always driving on an autobon or whatever its called but we have a driving speed limit at 100 ks but i think that’s like 70mph maybe 60.

I got my birthday package this week and it was amazing!!! i loved the ties and the candy. Thank tiffany as well! it was only like 100 rand which is around 7 dollars so not bad at all! i love packages, whenever you get bored you can always send e some! hahaha thank you sooo much!

I got to play with monkeys last week and i attached some pictures. Hopefully they work but oh man they’re super fun to play with! They were just climbing all over me and it stole my planner and started to eat it. haha They are really smart like really smart its weird!

The most spiritual experience this week was awesome. It’s one that i wont forget. So the other day we were driving and we drove past this house with a guy outside on crutches with one leg trying to rake his dirt. It was kinda funny seeing this guy hoping around trying to rake his dirt but at the same time i felt bad cause he was struggling. Anyways we turned around and helped him out and when we were done it seemed like his son came home (looked like he was 40s) anyways we talked to him cause the dad didn’t know English super well. We started talking and set up a time to come meet his family...turned out he wasn’t even related to that older man. Fast forward to when we go to meet the 40 year old. He gave us his address to meet him at his house but he didn’t have a phone. In South Africa the addresses are so messed up and they don’t even have street names. The signs are like buried on the ground cause people hit them with there cars, don’t ask hahaha. Anyways it took us a super long time to find his house and we almost gave up but we found it! Well we taught his whole family which consisted of his wife and 3 kids, the oldest being 14. They were having problems in their marriage and we just testified about families and taught about Lehi and his family and gave them a Book of Mormon to read as a family. During the lesson i remembered that at our stake conference, president hamilton said the gospel can fix any problem whether it be family, social, or government and it is totally true!!! It was a super spiritual lessons and i can’t wait to go back and teach them and see how their faith has grown reading the Book of Mormon!!

We met our new president this week and it was awesome!!! From the start everybody loves him! He is such a great guy. i love president lebethoa! He and his wife are from Johannesburg and they have 4 kids that he brought along to cape town. He is a young dad, he just has so much energy and always happy.  He’s the best. i cant wait to work with him and get to know him more.

love you all elder shaw

July 10, 2017

So this week we had a special stake conference for splitting the stake! We got to drive down to east London for the conference. Yo it was a lot of driving... like 6 there and back just to see be at the conference and they didn’t even have any talks prepared, just testimonies the whole time. President Hamilton was there which was cool, he reminds me of elder Bednar.

Our ward is pretty nice. They have got something going hahah it just takes forever to get things done cause or bishop oh man hahah love that guy (bishop jabanga) but he just carries things way to long than they need to be! Like getting someone confirmed, he just forgets and we have to wait another week but at least it gets done! We have lots of youth!!! I think bishop said we have like 40 potential missionaries but only like 3 are preparing to go and a lot of young woman. Youth are kinda the target or young families cause older people are just lazy. The youth program is pretty good. i don’t think they have mutual cause it to far for them to travel for an activity but they all like each other and it seems like there is no drama in the ward.

I was pretty homesick this week haha thinking about fourth of July and all the fun we had in college, but its not really a hinder.

I have a thought for you guys, maybe you can look it up hahha....sooo if you have moldy bread and you put it in the toaster all the mold gets burnt off right? I'm going to try it. hahaha

Yesterday when we drove down to east London it was the coolest thing ever. Usually you see a herd of kudu and impala but oh man we say sooo much more. We got to see monkeys playing on the side of the road and 3 zebras and a ton of kudu and some springboks and ostriches. Yo it was super cool!!!! I still have yet to seen a lion, elephant, or rhino but i think we will see them tomorrow when we drive again to east London to meet the mission president and his family.

We taught a lot of investigators this week and even had over 30 lessons in all but we had to push back some baptisms for the special conference this past week. We are preparing like 9 investigators for the 23 of July and 30 which I’m really excited about! We had another miracle this week. Another person named ayanda, after he offered a pray he was super excited and said "I JUST FEEL SUPER GOOD AND I AM DEFINITELY COMING TO YOUR CHURCH THIS WEEK, I PROMISE!"  Sadly we told him church was in east london and he couldn’t come but we are hoping he is still excited for this next week! Miracles are everywhere when you sacrifice and are obedient!

love you, hopefully my card will come soon!!!!

July 3, 2017

We got our new mission president on Saturday. No one really knows what to expect but he slept a ton these last few days cause of the time difference from salt lake.  I sent him and sms to ask permission for one of our districts to change their pday to another day and he called me back and when i saw his name on my phone i freaked out and was nervous hahaha but i knew it was for permission just didn’t know what to expect when i answered it but he seems really nice and smart. He came into the mission with 4 kids all under the age of 14 which is crazy sooo prayers for that family. His name is president Lebethoa and he’s from the biggest township in south africa called sweto. I think that’s how you spell it, not sure.

It get super cold here dad, luckily I’m now in a car. When we would walk it was sooo cold and people say it gets worse in August so not excited. The houses here don’t have like heaters they just boiler water on a burner to heat things up and that what we do as well haha its real cold at night.

I’m not in a new area really, i just moved flats like 2 min away. I’m in the same town just different township surrounding the town. I just joined area but we mostly play sports....rugby. Yo that sport is sooo much fun! I can’t wait to introduce it to you guys when i come back. I really enjoy watching it the little time we have when we walk past a bar or something hahaha its really fun!!!!

My comp is 3 months older than I am on a mission and he hits a year like next week and i hit 9 months this week so we are close together.

Being zone leaders together is the best because i love him so much but he kinda babies me and does everything, which i don’t like. But it’s getting better. Going on exchanges is always fun. I got to go on one with a greeny of about 3 weeks old and it was really funny to see what he was like. Weird to think i was like that, but hey we all go through that stage.

This week we saw some miracles not just at home! We are sacrificing a lot and trying to be exact in obedient and fasting and things like that so we can hit our baptismal goal. The pday that we start we had a lesson with a former investigator i dropped about a month ago and I told him straight up he needs to get baptized or we not coming back but in a missionary kinda manner. Just try to imagine how i would say that hahaha and we came back 2 days latter and they said, we feel that we need to be baptized, which is awesome!! They always come to church they just don’t read and don’t think they need to be baptized again but it was really nice to see that sacrifices work! That test strengthened my testimony. I think we are going to hit our goal with 11 baptisms this transfer but not sure how our whole zone is buying into the sacrifice challenge because we gave a zone training about it to them (nice way of rebuking them and telling them they need to be obedient). haha. I would say out of the 12 elders 8 of them are working at it. I did reports with the elders that weren’t making an effort last night and i asked them how it was going with the sacrifices and we will see how it goes for them.

Love you

Elder Shaw
By the way this ostrich that you see bit me right after that picture was taken and it hurt!
My new companion is the one where we are all sitting down with kids after playing rugby, hes the tongan right next to me.

June 26, 2016

This week’s letter is going to be short cause of time.

I had to drive to east London to pick up some cars for our zone. The trip consisted of my comp and i and then a senior couple, the Bells and oh man it was sooo funny. They talked the whole time in the car!!!! Oh my goodness, they’re kinda old and super funny. I really enjoyed the ride cause it reminded me of car rides to Utah with you guys! hahaha. Anyways we got the cars and were driving back and we lost Elder Bell and he didn’t have a phone and east London is pretty big.  Sooo we try to look for him and we find him after a little  so we drive up to the car as he is driving away and then just drives off, he didn’t see us!!! So we just head back to Queenstown with sister bell following us, hoping the elder bell will somehow make it back. Luckily he found his way back and its like a 3 hour trip hahaha super funny but I’m way worried for those two. My comp and I were laughing so hard!

elder shaw

love you and will definitely keep Baylor in my prayers.

June 19, 2017

Thanks for the birthday wishes!  So the flat that i live in is pretty scary. hehe The kitchen is rough and old and i don’t think the pan will fit in our little oven. I lost/ got my home card (debit card) stolen. i don’t loose things sooo i think someone stole my white hand book which had money and my home card in it. So i cant buy anything for my birthday with the money you sent. Sad day because i was going to take my comp out to dinner. Well it’s the only thing you can do on a misison hahaha especially here.

I finish Jesus the Christ this week and that is an accomplishment. That was the longest book i have ever read!  But it was way good!

The couples here are never married and the boyfriend and girlfriend don’t really get along so we either teach one or the other but try to get both!

Yo this week was crazy just because we had transfers and then combining the areas is going to be hard because we are already scheduled out for this week and we can’t see the people we want as often as we want to! We had to drive down to east London for transfers and stayed for 2 nights cause the flight came in late and we didn’t feel good about driving home that night so we had to stay another.  It is not fun to drive when you’re sick. I was throwing up all night and had to stop a few times while driving hahaha but all is well now. We got back and stayed home for a day till i got better then on Saturday it was a crazy day!!!! We taught 9 lessons and all super good. Since we are combining areas we have a lot of work to do and so many lessons. We try to get to our area at 10 and work through till 9 and we are constantly teaching! Yo it’s the best but i was super tired after the first day. Our investigator Sanele who has the old german husband is super sweet and sensitive to the spirit. We were teaching her about baptism and invited her to be baptized and she just expressed to us how she wanted to change and be better and i was like wow, your already an angel. She must have had a rough background but she super cool and here little daughter is the cutest thing ever!

I’m sure this week is going to be super crazy as well but we have MLC on Tuesday which would be my birthday and we have it at our senior couples flat cause we have to skype in and they said she would make beef stew so I’m super stoked to have a home cooked meal on my  birthday!!! hahaha The Bells are the best! Senior couples influence missionaries so much and help out. Oh how much i love them!!!!

Love you all have a good week,

elder shaw

June 11, 2017

Mom, i seriously don’t know what happened this week. It’s hard for me to remember! i need to start bringing my journal so i can remember everything. I’ll try my best... here we go

So let me tell you guys about a new investigator of last week. I’m not sure i told you about her in my last email.. soooo Sinale is such a cool person!!! She’s probably 28 with a cute little girl named Adele but while we were in a lesson i realized that Adele had strait brown hair and she was lighter than her mom and I was like wait a minute... found out she’s married to a 40 year old German, like what the heck!!! The best part is she jokes about it too. i don’t know how that marriage lasts, but hey, love wins. She is really progressing and i can’t wait to extend a baptismal date next time we see her!  This week was good. Elder Behunin said goodbye to a lot of people so we were all over the place and didn’t really teach too much. The disappointing thing is we were planning on 5 baptisms this week but then it went down to 3 and turned out that we had none. It was a shame. One of them went to the village and couldn’t make it back in time, then our other one moved to another area and was baptized there, and then the other one didn’t pass his interview. We were really bummed but all is well. I’m sure they will eventually get baptized. I’m pretty sure we are planning on hopefully double digits for july 9th. That is our next baptismal date cause our areas are combining, hope and pray!!! I love the people in Queenstown they are sooo nice.

love you,

elder shaw

June 5, 2017

Well shout out to my mom for telling me that my letters are awful so i will try to make a little more interesting lol. Let me tell ya this week was AMAZING! I didn’t really spend a lot of time in our area cause we had interviews on Wednesday and zone conference on Thursday which was all awesome!! In the interview, President Merrill, (I don’t know why but he always tells me my transfer news early hahaha so far i have always known my comp and my area before the news comes out cause he tells me what’s gonna happen) told me that my area and the zone leaders area are combining and i will be a zone leader, which means I HAVE A CAR!!!! But it also means i will be here for 6 months, which is great with me. So far 2 areas will make up a year of my mission! I’m so glad i dont have to walk anymore. My knee has been acting up again (old basketball injury). Then at the end of the interview he gave me a blessing. It was super spiritual and just what I needed. I loved it. Then at zone conference we talked about the joy and misery cycles. I was great also. It all comes down to our attitude, the consequences will follow whether it be good or bad. Wow dad is so smart! You learn by counsel or consequences!\

Apparently I’ve gotta to tell a little about my area as well. It’s hard to explain but its huge, we walk so much!! i work in a township but its pretty spread apart not close together. It looks like Peytons pic lol. (I can’t take pictures for safety.) but it also means that people just burn their trash.  They just throw it into this empty field and then they light the field ablaze haha it smells awful cause you got like dirty diapers and burning plastic. i think that’s what im going to do when i get home, so much more useful.

We have a district in our zone that lives like 3 hours away so they come donw for zone conference and stay 2 nights so we had a chance to play basketball. Yo i miss good basketball although there was this one elder, elder ivans who is super good... obviously not as good as me hahaha but he really is good and so it was fun defending someone good. We invited president to come play with us in the morning cause he’s a really athletic old man. I’m impressed but sadly every time he says no.

Super crazy about the Dunns. Tell them congratulations and I would love to see pictures of their fiancées.

Shout out to my momma again hopefully you like my letter this time!

Love you all,  elder shaw

May 29, 2017

I’m seriously trying to remember what happen this week cause it was such a blur. Ummmmm, so our really good investigator who’s name is Samkelu is doing great! We met him 3 weeks ago and we have already taught him everything and he sometimes comes fellowshipping with us! hahaha Investigator fellowshipper! But something sad happened. He has been really low on money because he is selling these loadshedding bulbs here and not doing very well and his boss is putting a lot of pressure on him so someone offered him to sell drugs and make about 300 rand a day. He texted us and said he’s really tempted to take the deal and then we couldn’t get a hold of him for like 5 days. Apparently his phone was stolen but luckily he came to church. We were super happy and relieved but at the end of church he gave us this note that was super nice thanking us for everything we have done with him. In the end he needed 300 rands sooo not sure what we are going to do but i hope he puts his trust in God and I’m sure everything will work out fine with him!

I really miss the temple. I wish I could go. I love that place.

This week was great! We were able to confirm another one of our investigators to baptism which is such a blessing.

May 22, 2017

This week was a bunch of ups and downs. On Wednesday we had an awesome day! We hit every single one of our goals and had quite a few lessons and they all went great but the next day was probably the worst I have had on mission. We walked for probably 4 out of the 6 hours we were in our area and only one appointment held. So we were constantly walking, got home and just crashed. I was like depressed, it was the worst. The good thing was we had a baptism this week and it was really sweet. His dad is a member. He was baptized about a year ago. We have been teaching his children who are all under the age of like 18ish. Anyways they live hecka far away in the village so walking there takes over an hour so we sacrificed so much for him to make the date of the 21st but it was all worth it! Seeing his dad baptize him and then having him coming up afterwards to tell us thank you for sacrificing and getting him ready for the baptism. The baptism was really sweet. His dad can’t really speak English so Bulelani (his son) pretty much said the baptismal prayer while his dad repeated him and then after the dad pretty much grabbed his neck and dropped the kid in the water! hahaha it was so funny! The first time he didn't go all the way down so we had to do it again but it was a really great experience. Now we are getting ready for the 2 other siblings to be baptized on the 11 of June so the whole family can be baptized! They are such a sweet family and the mom isn't in the picture. I’m not sure what happened to her. Also this week, lets see, Sem stayed instead of going to cape town!!! so we are preparing him for baptism on the 11 as well. We hopefully will have 6 baptisms on the 11th. We aren’t teaching a lot of people, we only had 10 investigator lessons this week but all of our investigators are really progressing so its all great. We have received a ton of referrals. We’re are trying to ask everyone and its working! I think we received 20 referrals and contacted most of them!!!! Its awesome. pmg says if you ask “who do you know?” you wont need to worry about investigators. Oh another funny story. my comp and I are walking down the street in the township and we both stop and listen and motab is playing hahaha so we try to find the house that is blaring it (people love gospel music here). Anyways we find the house and ask him where he got the cd. It turned out that it was pirated and they bought it on the side of the road hahaha super funny!  We scheduled a time to meet the family! hahaha What a coincidence! Love you,

Elder Shaw

May 8, 2017

Mlungisi is awesome. i can’t complain at all. We are finding new investigators, we have progressing investigators, and missionary work is the best. This week with 4 of our investigators we had to sit down with them and be really bold and blunt to them because we have taught them pretty much every required lesson. We just had to say our church is the only true church. I guess sometimes that is called for. So when we go back and visit them this next time it will probably be a do or die situation. Sometimes it can be hard to let go of investigators cause you build such a good relationship with them. You know they can change, they just choose not to. I hope these 4 investigators will make a good decision this week. We are teaching this one lady from New Rest and she is the one who is going through a really rough time and every time we teach her, her kids are jumping around making so much noise. This time she was fed up with it as well so she told them to leave the house and then she locked the door. hahaha Probably not the right thing but ah we had such a good lesson about the plan of salvation and the question why are we here and what’s our purpose hit home with her. The spirit was definitely present in that lesson and she invited her friend from work and he was really interested.  At the end he said, "wow i really need to change my life" haha i kinda giggled inside when he said that! But hopefully he will come along as well.

My companion is doing pretty good. He had the chance to talk with sister french and after that he was super motivated and happy. She must do her job very very good! it was really nice that day but things are going great. i don’t feel that he has made any progress this week but i might push him a little harder this week and see how he responds. I’m not going to lie, i have been kinda easy on him but if i get another transfer with him i really hope to set good goals and make him stick to those goals, so we can both improve and learn from each other and that he will get out of this little hole that he is in.
Our ward is all black. The only white people are the missionaries ahahaha We live in a village and yes they do have youth but i don’t think mutual is at the church since its quite a ways away. In sacrament meeting they speak half english half xosha so i get like half of sacrament meeting hahaha. The church in Africa is strictly English. We can’t teach in any other language or have church in any other language. The people here don’t really like that because it’s tradition to speak xosha so it’s kinda half and half. I’m learning the language little by little and can say a few simple sentences.

I’m so excited for this Sunday. It will be a blast to talk to everyone and ill get to express myself better cause i hate typing!
love you

May 1, 2017

(I told him we went to Idaho Pizza Co)
Yo i miss Idaho Pizza Co so much! I have had pizza here and its not the same but still pretty good! I’m pretty much good at cooking as well. I made my own tortillas and they were super good! Thanks for the spices you sent. I’m not sure what they were called but I loved them! This week was great! Zizo got baptized! Now that i think of it, I’m going to name my kids weird African names cause i think i like them more hahah, sorry wife. The baptism was awesome and she couldn’t even describe what she was feeling! It was super cool. The funny part was she didn’t know how to come out of the water. (Muddy water) She was good at bending her knees but then she sprawled like a frog and flailed coming out, sounded like a wave crashing, hahaha it was pretty funny but it was a really cool experience. We have lot of progressing investigators, which is always nice! I’m sorry that I don’t have lot of time. I’m actually over time now but missionary life is awesome! I don’t think i have ever been this happy in my life. I just started the Doctrine and Covenants and its awesome! D&C 6 is awesome! One of my favorite sections, i think its section 6. haha It truly shows its one of my favorite. My companion is turning out to be an awesome obedient guy. I’m sorry there aren’t any pics cause i forgot my camera. I’ll remember next week.

love you

April 24, 2017

(I asked him what was with the word yo)

Dear Fam,
Yo, which should be spelled yogh is just a saying here like wow or something along those lines and i say it a lot. i think my suit pants will be fine. i only wear the suit for 3 hours on Sunday and then i go home and take it off. But oh man i can’t tie my shoes with it on. The problem is in my thighs but good news is i lost 12 lbs and everything fits a little bit better cause we walk soooo much! My shoes are kinda ruined so i have less padding but im making them work. They look like they went through the 2 world war on d-day hahah.

Sooooo this week was great! We had zone conference and the president came down and did interviews. i love talking with that man. It’s so sad that he will be leaving in July. Most important thing is we had lots of lessons this week and people are progressing! Zizo will be getting baptized next week. She is 14 years old and does rowing. yo she looks like 19 years old and is a great person. But that will be awesome!!!

i dont even know what i ate this week. We were on exchanges and im pretty sure i ate a cow hoof. I dont really know what it was but it was not beef! sooo hard to chew. hahah. I’m sorry I don’t have lots of time, but love you lots and currently love missionary work more.

(I asked what he wanted for his birthday)
i really like packages but they cost lots of money so it would be awesome if you could send a package because buying myself things is lame! i can buy most things here though. For my bday package send something for my comp. He would love it oh and you should send a thumb drive so i can store things! That would be awesome or what would be better is if you sent me money so i could by one here so i can get it faster!

elder shaw

love you for everything!

April 17, 2017

Queenstown is awesome. It’s like what you would see in pictures, jungley with bunch of shacks. I serve in a township outside of queenstown called mlungisi. There is a big game park next to queenstown with giraffes and rhinos but its not next to our area, kinda on the opposite side of town so i haven’t seem them yet but last pday, when i wasn’t here, they went and chased down giraffes. Who new that tall people (like braiden) could be so fast? The people there are super nice but the don’t speak english haha so im learning a lot of xosha, well im trying. i have a hard time! Mission life is awesome here in Queenstown. i have a great companion (Elder Buhanin) he is from rigby idaho and knows the gneitings which is pretty cool. My first few days here were super fun and interesting. So my comp happened to total the car a little bit ago before i came so we bike and walk in our area which is pretty far.  I’m junior companion. He has about 6 months left on his mission. He works hard but is lax on the obedience side but im trying to push him and set an example. In the town that we are in there are like 8 or 10 elders. There are 4 in our ward but we live out in the boonies. The nearest big town is 3 hours away. We live with 2 other elders and oh man 4 man boarding are so fun!! haha i love it! The ward is a ward haha but not a single white person.  The sacrament meeting is half english and half xosha.  They mix both into a sentence so it’s hard to understand but im learning a little by little.

We have a few really good investigators that will get baptized this transfer, maybe 5, but for sure 2. We have one actually next week. I’m so excited for that. We met this one girl named zanali (shaunalee) she was actually a referral from some other elders and we went to go see her and she has some serious problems i don’t want to go into detail but wow i feel so bad for her. She has been through so much and she even tried to commit suicide. Don’t you just wish that everyone could get baptized right then and there cause you know it can help them out sooooo much!! We are teaching her and her soon to be brother in law. Wow they are so powerful and so ready for the gospel. i cant wait to continue to teach them. Oh and we are teaching another guy named Patrick. He’s like 6'5" and plays rugby and this guy is soooo funny!!! We taught him the word of wisdom right after he went to the store and bought some alcohol haha.  i wish i could video him and send it home but i cant. It takes to long to upload. He said, “guys i have some serious problems with alcohol and tobacco” and we continue to talk and then he said, “wait guys i have a serious problem with woman oh man they are my weakness”. So we kinda snickered and said we would talk about that next time. He committed to go without anything for 3 days. We are hoping and praying that he can go 3 days without any tobacco or alcohol. PFP pray for patrick.

i love the people here so much and i cant wait to get to know them more.

Sorry mom for the bad English. I’m just super lazy right now and don’t want to correct it. i got your packages about 2 weeks ago i jsut keep forgetting to say. i got Nicole’s too! Tell her thank you. She didn’t email me this week. How is home life? Is it pretty boring without me? Do you see any of my friends? Can you have Brennan email me? i want to hear from him!!! Oh and soo for my bday i kinda want to buy a new suit since my doesn’t fit or at least like some new pants. i think i might get some soon cause my black ones DO NOT fit anymore! hahah way small for my thunder thighs now that im biking and walking all the time! Thank you, love you

April 12, 2017

This note and picture is from a sister in Caleb's ward, June Holmes. She has written us several times keeping us updated with Caleb's food preferences and ward activities.

Dearest Sister Shaw,

We said goodbye to your son, Elder Shaw, last night at the youth activity. I can't believe it's 6 months that he's been here! We have enjoyed his kind, gentle spirit in our ward and we will miss him.
Thank you for raising such a fine gentleman, he is a great example to my sons and all the youth in our ward.
This is a pic from last night's soccer game at the chapel.

Kind regards,
June Holmes

April 10, 2017

I’m not gonna lie, i had no idea when Easter was but I’m guessing this Friday and Sunday. I did some studying this morning to figure out where the Passover came from and apparently it was instituted to commemorate when the fog killed all the firstborns in Egypt and then they added a bunch of things to it but it's quite interesting.

This week was amazing! The whole week we had quite a few lessons but at the same time we had to go to cape town 4 times this week and we were wayyy over in our allotted ks, miles for the week, like more than double. My companion had visa issues then a doctors appointment and he had to get a SA ID but it was all worth it for Saturday and Sunday. Well to start, Saturday morning we got a few people from the ward together and some investigators to play some soccer and it was great. Only problem was i slid into my own teammate and have this huge turf burn all down my leg and it hurts soo bad! It was an accident! Hahaha but way funny. Then we visited all our progressing investigators and invited them to church for like the 20th time! And guess what they came! For the first time in 6 months i had an investigator come to church! It was so worth it. We have been working hard and it all came good in the end and it was my last Sunday here. Sooo avela and edward came to church and then nelly and her kids came late but we were running around trying to arrange rides and showed where they all live that we were late to church but that’s ok. At least they came! They had an awesome experience and nelly really really enjoyed church. I had to say goodbye to them last Sunday because I’m getting transferred to queenstown and my companion now is elder buhanin. He’s a guy from idaho falls hahaha. I’m super excited for this next part in my mission but really sad i will be leaving these people that i have really grown to love! Another funny story (if you don’t like killing animals don’t read) hahaha but we were in this township visiting a less active family and before we went in, we saw that their neighbor had a pig tied up and let me tell you i have never seen i pig this size, it was huge!!!!! But anyways halfway through the lesson we hear this squealing super loud because they were killing the poor pig for a braii. We were watching a temple video about what temples are like and my companion just about passed out because of it all. I was laughing really hard because i don’t think he could kill a fly. Haha but what a spiritual lesson, let me tell you. I thought we were going to have to teach the plan of salvation after that. hahaha love you all.

Your prayers definitely have helped this week

April 3, 2017

OK, conference was so great! My favorite talk was from the priesthood session when President Eyring was talking about walking with Christ and as we do we will see people as who they are, children of God and what they can become! i don’t know if its just being on mission but i felt like every single talk was pointed just to me.  Pretty sure it was just because i wasn’t sleeping for the first time!

In our area we are teaching quite a few lessons but none of them are investigators haha. We try to visit a member every day and less actives and i feel like it takes up a ton of time! We still got to meet with sinabo and Avela. We don’t even know what to teach them anymore. They have a baptismal date for the 23 of April and the only thing they need to do is come to church! Which is quite a big thing hahaha still working on it with them. They didn’t have a ride 2 weeks ago and this week was conference so they haven’t been able to be present for sacrament.

Had a really cool lesson this week. We were in Stellonbosch at the university (if anyone wants to study abroad this is the place!!! so beautiful and such a cool place) and we were walking and some guy randomly said hi to us which is unusual cause as missionaries people ignore you and try not to make eye contact ( such  an adjustment for me cause it was the exact opposite back home ;) ) hahahaha but anyways it was a less active studying and we scheduled a time to meet with him. Fast forward 2 weeks and we met with him. He was baptized at 16 and stayed active in the church for his teenage years till he came to college and then started to venture out to different churches. Anyways we were talking and he still credits the church for teaching him so much as a kid and he wouldn’t be where he is now without the church. Then we asked him why he went inactive, he just said he doubts his testimony.  We told him to stop doubting his faith and to doubt his doubts. Then we had him realize that when he started loosing his testimony was when he stopped reading the Book of Mormon. Cool thing was it was his birthday. It was such a cool lesson and great contact!! Reading the Book of Mormon is so important to gaining a testimony!!!

Love you,
